Welcome to Safari Lodge Reviews.
My name is Steve Cantwell. This website was set up because my wife Lou and I realised we had actually been to quite a few different safari lodges over the last few years. It can be quite hard to find consistent reviews for comparing safari lodges and we thought our experience might be useful to others considering going on safari and bewildered by the choice there is out there.
Let me make a few things clear before I go into how the reviews work. These safari reviews are purely our own opinions. We have no ties to any of the companies running them except for the wonderful Horseback Africa, which is run by very good friends of ours. The reviews describe our experiences whilst we were at the lodges. These may well be different from others' experiences, but we can only write about our own and we promise to do this as accurately as our memories allow (and please remember that some of these visits were a few years ago).
How the reviews work
I will try to give relevant statistics about the lodge and when we stayed. I will also put an idea of the rack rate per person when we stayed but bear in mind prices in some countries, such as Zambia, have really gone up in the last few years.
I will try to rate various aspects of the lodges out of 5 and then give an overall mark out of 10. Marking these lodges can be very difficult as, for those sorts of rates, one would expect 5/5 for everything. The overall mark may not seem to be a reflection of the individual marks as some aspects affect a safari holiday far more than others. For example, we go on safari for the game drives and walks so bad food will not bother us nearly as much as a bad guide.
